A Second chance
A VINEYARD COME BACK TO LIVE
This land, still bearing the unmistakable marks of human labor and the winema- king tradition that has always made the Mascali area renowned for producing exceptional wines, seemed to plead for a second chance.
The vineyard climbs through a rugged landscape, crisscrossed by narrow paths, known as “le rasule,” winding between small towers, farmhouses, and lava stone walls.
At the higher altitudes, where the view is spectacular, viticulture was once heroic due to the steep and slippery terrain, whi- ch made cultivating vines a demanding collective effort.
Our vineyard has been brought back to life in honor of all this.
A DELICATE RESTORATION
We have restored the ancient stone mounds, where for centuries lava stones were gathered after clearing the land-authentic masterpieces of rural ingenuity and toil. To our surprise, hidden and partially buried within these mounds, we discovered ancient bush-trained vines. An unexpected gift, which we took as a sign that we were on the right path-guided by nature. Without altering their original geometry, we carefully restored the terraced plots that have, for centuries, enabled the cultivation of vi- nes on steep slopes. We reopened the paths, steps, and rasole (small dirt trails). A delicate restoration, as befits such a precious and fragile landscape as Mount Etna, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
