Produced from 100% Nerello Mascalese grapes from the vineyard in Contrada Zotti, Montargano, in the muni- cipality of Mascali.
The vines from which the grapes are sourced are the result of the grafting of a pre-phylloxera clone of Nerello Mascalese, already present in the area.
The grapes are manually harvested, preserving the integrity of the bunches, and placed in medium-sized crates.
After a quick transfer to the winery, the grapes are hand-selected. A soft destemming follows to avoid damaging the berries. The grapes are placed in a fermentation tank for about 15 days at a controlled temperature.
Nerello Mascalese shows its best qualities over the years, expressing all its characteristics with extended aging. The wine rests for 8-10 months in 500-liter tonneaux. The final phase of aging is done in bottle for at least 12 months.
Visually, the wine has an intense ruby red color with garnet reflections
On the nose, there are clear notes of ripe fruit, leaning towards jam, mainly berries, with hints of violet, leather, bitter almond, and underbrush.
Full-bodied, with excellent persistence, great elegance, and complexity.
Velvety tannins, a testament to the long aging process, but with excellent acidity that demonstrates the longevity that Etna Rosso DOC wines can aspire to.
